Getting Personal With Author Jessica Shin

This week we’re Getting Personal with Author Jessica Shin. Jessica stopped by to talk about the writing life and share an excerpt from her HOT new novel Instruction by Seduction.

About Jessica Shin
Jessica Shin has been writing longer than she has been reading. As a small child she would scribble nonsense on paper then run and ask her mother if it said anything. She completed her first “novel” just before the fifth grade and hasn’t stopped for a moment.

Jessica is the youngest of nine children and is originally from the Midwest. Now transplanted to Georgia, she finds that her southern home among the Dogwoods and kudzu suits her almost as well as the corn fields.

A woman of endless interests, Jessica has sampled from many forms of martial arts including Tae Kwon Do, Aikido and Jujitsu but finds Chinese Kung Fu and Tai Chi very close to her heart. To keep things in balance, she is also an avid yogi.

Jessica lives in the Atlanta area with her cover model heartthrob husband and their beautiful cats. She loves to cook and enjoys a good glass of wine daily (when not pregnant!).

And now, let’s get personal with author Jessica Shin

What’s the best part of being a writer?
As a writer I get to do anything. I can go back in time and change a person’s decisions. I can come up with snappy comebacks immediately instead of an hour later. I can create life in a moment, and relationships that have lasted years in just a few sentences. I can create something out of nothing, which never fails to amaze me.

What’s the most challenging part of being a writer?
The most challenging part of the writing process is forcing myself to write through the tough times – when I’m not inspired, when I’m tired, when I’m discouraged. I recently read that it’s not the best writers who are successful but the most persistent. I’d like to be both!

What’s the most challenging part of writing erotic romance?
Telling people what I write. I live in the deep south, where sometimes even just being a wine drinker can provoke people to try to cast demons out of you.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?
In five years, you will be five years older no matter what you’ve done during those years. So whatever your dream is, start today!

What is your most current release and what is it about?
Instruction by Seduction was released on January 22nd. This story is about Leah, a broke 27-year-old college student who lacks many things, but mostly she lacks self-confidence. When she comes into possession of a very special box, it unleashes a chain of events in her life including a man who knows exactly what she needs in every way. Through his lessons in the bedroom she is able to claim her own confidence and take hold of her right to pursue her dreams.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
I’m a rabid learner and always have some new obsession to explore. Right now I’m in up to my ears in the power of thought and how your thoughts create your reality and have a very real impact on your health and body. It’s a fascinating subject and in Instruction by Seduction I take some of these concepts to the extreme with Leah as a demonstration of the power of changing your thought life.

Favorite swear word?
I’m about to become a first time mom so I’m trying to come up with creative alternatives to curse words so my child doesn’t come out sounding like a sailor. So far “God donut” and “frack” have been useful.

Favorite food?
Asking a pregnant woman about her favorite food is much like asking a mom which child she loves best. At the moment? Peanut butter, orange juice, and nectarines.

Do you have any pets?
My husband and I have two cats – 10 year old Midori and 8 year old Viktor. They are both rescue cats and provide not just entertainment and quiet time loving, but are also effective alarm clocks.

Thank for stopping by, Jessica!

And now, Darlings, pour yourself something cool to drink, make a wish and enjoy a magical taste of Instruction by Seduction

About Instruction by Seduction

You do not open the box. The box opens you.

When Leah picks up an ornate box at a flea market she knows it’s special. But she has no idea how her life as a sexually disappointed college student and grocery store cashier will be transformed.

Through forces unknown, the box summons Hale—a man who knows Leah inside and out. He uses their no-strings-attached sexual escapades—which include a hot threesome and light bondage—as lascivious lessons to teach Leah what she needs to succeed in her job, education and relationships.

With each sexual encounter growing more and more extreme, Leah comes away challenged and questioning everything. But will Leah listen to her new instincts and embrace the life of her dreams or will she continue to hide in her old and comfortable but self-defeating ways?

“What are you doing?” Leah squeaked.

“It’s hard to do this wearing clothes. I’ve tried and was unsuccessful.”

“Stop!” She squealed as he pulled his shirt out of his dress pants to finish unbuttoning.

“Do you really want me to?”

Leah paused. She really didn’t. From the moment the bizarre, beautiful stranger breezed through her door like the January Kansas wind she’d wanted nothing more than for him to take off that fabulous suit. But dare she say it? Dare she say what she wanted? Would she be prepared for what followed if she did?

“I don’t know what I want,” she whispered.

“And therein lies your problem.” Hale continued to unbutton his shirt. He let it fall open, exposing a perfectly hairless, chiseled chest. “What is it that you’re afraid of?”

“Maybe I’m afraid of getting what I want.”

“Now we’re getting somewhere.”

Hale slid out of his black jacket and deposited it on the same chair that held his tie. He turned back to Leah and put his hands on her shoulders. His touch was amazingly warm, even after being out in the cold and handling the beer straight out of the fridge. It sent hot shivers through Leah’s body and sent her hormones spinning. She closed her eyes.

Soft pressure moved her in a semicircle, putting her back toward the fridge.

Her eyes still closed, Leah let Hale push her back until she was pressed against the appliance. Once there she trembled, waiting. She didn’t have to wait long.

Hale placed feathery-soft kisses at her ear, his lips moving down her neck, planting faint kisses all the way down. She leaned her head back against the fridge, afraid to let this seduction continue but desperate to hold onto it. His hands slid down off her shoulders and came to rest on the top of her towel.

“Hale.” It was half-plea, half-warning.

He gripped the towel and in one swift move, pulled it completely off Leah’s body. Her eyes flew open and she shrieked, moving to cover herself but Hale’s hands found hers and held them out to her sides, leaving her fully exposed.

“Don’t,” he whispered. “You’re beautiful.”

“I’m scared!”

“You’re perfect.” And with that Hale’s lips covered hers in a gentle but forceful kiss, leaving Leah no choice but to open to him. Her sensible side was screaming in confusion while her desire rose within her, an unstoppable force.

She moaned softly under his lips.

“Do you still want me to stop?” Hale whispered.

Leah looked up into those perfect green eyes and again felt that inexplicable recognition. Somehow this stranger was already hers, just like the box.

“No.”

Hale smiled and nodded.

“I thought you’d say that.”
